Syoichi Kobayashi

Painter

Syoichi Kobayashi draws upon spontaneous inspirations from his surroundings, expanding them into colors and forms. His paintings fluidly shift between figuration and abstraction, often dwelling in the space between. Raised in Nishi-Akashi, Hyogo, near the sea, his early fascination with marine life and nature nurtured a strong curiosity—now the foundation of his creative process. He studied oil painting at Musashino Art University, where encounters with artworks, mentors, and peers profoundly shaped his development. Among his influences, the work of Yasuo Kuniyoshi left a lasting impression.

Kobayashi’s practice centers on acrylics, integrating various materials and techniques guided by intuition. His aim is for each viewer to encounter their own inner self through his works. Over the years, he has actively submitted to numerous open-call exhibitions, receiving multiple selections and awards. Most recently, his works were featured in group exhibitions in New York at Agora Gallery (2023) and MAX Gallery (2024).
