MISAKO MASAKI

Painter

What does art mean to Misako Masaki?
It is “everything that transcends logic,” grounded in a deep sense of physicality.
As a child, her fingers moved as if tracing everything she saw; when she was deeply moved, her feet would flutter restlessly. When she makes bold, sweeping brushstrokes, her body begins to dance. Even the faint sound of a pen or brush can send a tremor through her from somewhere deep within.
Is it a kind of primal energy?
Her art is what she calls “Harawata-suru” a surrender to what wells up from the deepest source of the body and spirit, beyond thought or emotion.
Her work touches the viewer’s “Hara,” reconnecting them with their true, natural self and reminding them of what they love in their daily lives.
