Mikiko Fukai

Mikiko Fukai is a visual artist whose practice moves across calligraphy, the body, and photography to express invisible essence and human presence.

Having practiced calligraphy since childhood and photography since her teenage years, she has spent decades exploring portraiture through a way of seeing that seeks the authentic core within each person. Through her recent practice of creating calligraphy in response to each individual, she has developed a deeper sensitivity to what emerges from within.

She senses what appears through encounters with people and expresses it through calligraphy. Writing on the body becomes an act of making the unseen more directly visible — both to the individual and to those who witness the work.

Working across cultures, including Vietnam and India, Fukai continues to explore the intersection of seeing, writing, and human presence.

Mikiko Fukaiは、書・身体・写真を横断しながら、人の内側にある目に見えない本質や存在の気配を表現するアーティストである。

幼少期より書に親しみ、高校生の頃から写真表現を続けてきた。長年のポートレート制作では、その人自身や周囲の人が「その人らしさ」を感じるような、本質的な魅力を写し出してきた。近年の書き下ろしの実践を通して、人の内側にあるものをより深く感じ取る感覚が育まれている。

彼女は、人と向き合う中でその人の内側に立ち現れるものを感じ取り、書として現す。身体に書く行為は、内側にあるものを、本人にも見る人にもより直接的に可視化する試みである。

ベトナムやインドなど、さまざまな場所で制作を続けながら、見ること、書くこと、存在することの交差点を探求している。
