Kanari

Kanari is an artist who expresses stained glass while interweaving allegory and reality.

Kanari was born and raised in Kagawa Prefecture, the land of Kobo Daishi and the Shikoku Pilgrimage, and grew up in an environment with deep ties to shrines and temples.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, while working as a dental hygienist at a clinic in Tokyo and feeling physically and mentally exhausted, she visited a temple and suddenly felt the desire to create a work with a kimono and glass motif. As if guided by something, she came across a stained glass class in Tokyo.

Kanari, who has been dexterous and good at crafting since childhood, began creating kimono stained glass in Kagawa in 2022, after learning stained glass techniques for about half a year.

Kanari sandwiches the gold and orchid brilliance of Kyoto Nishijin-ori, a traditional Japanese textile, between glass, wraps them with copper tape, and solders them, making it possible to express the delicacy of stained glass in the same way as sculpture and painting.

Kanari works on her creations every day with the hope that people all over the world will feel the delicate yet powerful energy that lies deeply within her work.

Kanariは、弘法大師ゆかりの地であり、四国遍路の地でもある香川県で、神社仏閣との関わりが深い環境で生まれ育った。

新型コロナウイルス感染症のパンデミックの中、東京の歯科医院で歯科衛生士として働きながら心身ともに疲弊していた頃、あるお寺に参拝した際に、ふと着物とガラスをモチーフにした作品制作のインスピレーションが湧上る。そして、何かに導かれるかのように、東京でステンドグラス教室に出会った。

幼い頃から手先が器用で、ものづくりに長けていたKanariは、約半年間のステンドグラスの技法習得を経て、2022年から香川で独自の着物ステンドグラス制作をスタートさせる。

Kanariは、日本の伝統文化である京都西陣織の金蘭の輝きを、ガラスで挟み込み、銅テープで巻き付け、ハンダ付けすることで、彫刻や絵画と同じように、ステンドグラスの繊細さを表現することを可能にした。

Kanariは作品を通して、その奥深くに秘められた繊細でありながら力強いエネルギーを、世界中の人々に感じてほしいという思いで、日々制作に取り組んでいる。
