HANA

Kyoto-native artist HANA creates art that features Kyoto textiles with ancient Japanese spirits residing in her DNA. Her works show the beauty of traditional Japanese textiles in a new light.
She grew up familiar with Japanese textiles since childhood as her late father ran a weaving factory of Nishijin brocade. Nishijin brocade is a luxurious yarn-dyed silk textile woven in the Nishijin area of Kyoto: an epicenter of Japanese culture. It is a prominent type of Japanese textile whose patterns are created with pre-dyed yarns.

Having sought the meaning of the life given to her with the outbreak of COVID-19, she found her way onto her native land. She is committed to preserving and passing on her art that uses colors passionately and combines textued mediums with Kyoto textiles.
Her works are essentially two-dimensional yet have unique shapes with the rendering of textures of Kyoto-made textiles combined with various mediums. They comfort and invigorate those who see them　with their distinct beauty.
She would like to spread the beauty of Japanese woven fabric alongside her artworks filled with passion from Japan to the world.

京都生まれのアーティスト華のDNAにはいにしえの日本人が宿っている。京織物を用いた作品を手掛け、日本の伝統的な織物の美しさを新たな角度から伝える。
日本の文化の中心地であった京都、さらに「西陣」と呼ばれる地域で織られる先染めによる高級絹織物の西陣織。先に糸を染め織って文様をつくりだす日本を代表する織物である。その機織り工場を営んだ亡き父が彼女のルーツである。

コロナ禍をきっかけに生かされる意味を問いつづけ、生まれ育った地へとたどり着いた。彼女が放つ情熱的な色使い、そして立体的な作風と京織物とを融合させたアート、それこそが彼女が残し伝えていく使命とも言える。
平面作品ではあるが京織物の立体的な素材、さらにいろいろな画材とを組み合わせ美しく独特な作品へと仕上げる。そんな彼女の作品は、みる人の心に癒しや元気を届けるであろう。
日本から海外へと活動を広げ、情熱的な作品と共に日本の織物の美しさを伝えていきたい。
