CHIKA

Painter

CHIKA has questioned stereotypes and what people consider “common sense” that she has felt uncomfortable about since childhood. She realizes the world she has longed for since her childhood through art - the world where people live freely while valuing harmony.

She grew up and became an aunt to her nephew and then gave birth to her own child in 2022. Making paintings out of photos she took of them filled her heart with joy. Her works were initially for her own pleasure but eventually became her tools for contributing to society. It led to her painting style, where she decides the overall theme by looking at the child in a photo and paints a background that highlights it using primarily acrylics.

Her first group exhibition was Genten Exhibition in 2021, where she had the honor of receiving affirming comments from the visitors, including “Smiles of these children would get me going in my life!” and “I could feel my cells tremble.” Drawing on the experience of having the viewers have personal investment in her works, she continues to create to realize a society in which people can be hopeful for the future.
