ATSUKO YOKOMAKURA
Painter
Atsuko yokomakura was born in Fukuoka Prefecture and studied oil painting at Musasino Art University, and has been painting for half a century.
Even while giving birth to and raising children, teaching people how to paint, and caring for her elderly parents, her passion for painting never faded, and she continued to face the canvas wholeheartedly.
Not a single year went by without her painting. While broadening her horizons through exposure to abstract methods of expression, she also captures the raw sensations she feels in her daily life. She wants to freeze the moment when she casual beauty of everyday life. She doesn’t just go with the flow, but imprints that beauty. She wants to convey and share the beauty that she captures in a softer, gentler way that lies outside words.
Her main exhibitions include the “Atelier Sekiguchi Paiting Exhibition” which she has hosted every year since 2007, and the “Drawing Person Exhibition” at Ginza Yu Gallery every year since 2013. She has also had many other solo and group exhibition, and was selected for the Salon d’Art Japonais 2024 in France last year.

横枕敦子は福岡県で生まれ、武蔵野美術大学で油絵を学び、半世紀、絵を描き続けてきた。
子供を産み育て、絵を人に教え、老いた両親の介護をしながらも、描くことへの情熱は決して絶やすことなく、キャンバスにひたすら向き合い続けた。描かなかった年は１年たりともない。抽象的な表現方法に触れて思考の幅を広げる一方で、生活の中で感じる生（なま）の実感を具象に落とし込んでいく。日常の何気ない美しさを感じる一瞬を止めてしまいたい。流されるままでなく、その美しさを刻印する。言葉の外側にあるより柔らかで穏やかな方法で、敦子が捉えている美しさを伝え分かち合いたい。
