Makoto Ambo

Makoto Ambo was born in Saroma town in Hokkaido, then moved to Chitose City, where he met the Ainu, the indigenous residents of Hokkaido. Having been captivated by calligraphy and painting since childhood, he entered the Graphic Design Department of Hokkaido College of Art and Design. Wanting to learn a range of designs, he became a freelance designer in 1993 and entered into a two-year contract with POLO B.C.S., where he worked on logos and cut-and-sew designs. He embarked on his life as a contemporary ink brush painter as he invented his distinctive technique Nijimi-ga (Blur Painting), which overpaints the ink bleeds. In 2021, a Wikipedia page for the technique was created, and the following year, it became a registered trademark. In 2023, he had a commemorial exhibition to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Nijimi-ga.

In 1995, he became a master instructor at Nihon Shodo Hyoronsha, an association in Hokkaido for the promotion and study of calligraphy. In 1996, his Nijimi-ga technique got featured in a National TV broadcast as “a new form of Japanese ink painting.” Sine then, he has been known to the world as a modern Japanese black ink artist. Using Japanese paper and ink, he paints dragons and Mt.Fuji expressing the beauty of ink painting and the uniqueness of Japan. He also paints owls and forests with the theme of environmental protection with respect to Ainu culture. Sine 2018, he has been actively painting cats to eliminate the slaughters.
His major exhibitions and awards include solo exhibitions at the Mitsukoshi department store in Hokkaido from 2008 to 2019, winning of the Japan-Frane Contemporary Art World Exhibition Award in 010, and selection for the 230th edition of Le Salon de la Société des Artistes Français at the Grand Palais on the Champs-Élysées, Paris in February 2020. Others include the 16th JCAT GALLERY Award in 2022 and an invitation to exhibit at Tokyo Art Fair in 2023. The same year, he won the Career Art Award 2023 which awards artists who have made many years of contribution to research, appraisal, and development of art from the Italian Effeti Arte Foundation.

安保真は、北海道佐呂間町に生まれ、千歳市に移住し、北海道の先住民族アイヌと出会う。幼少の頃から書道と絵画 に興味を持ち、1981年に北海道造形デザイン専門学校グラフィックデザイン科に入学する。より多くのデザインを学ぶため、1993 年にフリーランスのデザイナーになり、POLO.B.C.S と 2 年間の契約を結び、ロゴデザインとカットソーデザインに取り組んだ。1993 年 唯一無二、重ね描きできる独自の墨絵技法【滲み画】を発見、現代墨絵作家として歩みはじめる。2021 年【滲み画】Wikipedia に掲載され、2022 年には、安保真の独自の技法【滲み画®︎】が商標登録される。2023 年 【滲み画®︎】30周年にあたり、全国で記念作品展が企画された。

1995 年 日本書道評論社毛筆 部師範を取得。1996 年 【滲み画】が全く新しい墨絵として NHK テレビ「新しい日本の墨絵」として紹介される。その後、日本の現代ジャパニーズブラックインクアーティストとして活動し、和紙と墨を使い墨絵の美しさや日本らしさを表現した龍や富士山などや、アイヌ文化を尊重した梟や森など環境保護をテーマに作品を描く。また、2018 年より猫の保護活動の一環として「殺処分ゼロへ」をテーマに猫を積極的に描いている。

主な展示・受賞歴には、2008 年から 2019 年まで札幌三越での個展開催、2010 年には「日本フランス現代美術世界展 賞」を受賞、2020「第 230 回ル・サロン」MENTION 授与などがある。また、2022 年には「第 16 回 JCAT GALLERY Award」を、2023 年には世界の現代美術で活躍している作家から選ばれる CAC 主催「COLLECTORS ART PRIZE WINNER」を受賞、更には2023 年にTokyo Tower Art Fairに招待される。また同年、イタリアエフエット・アルテ財団より、長年に渡り、芸術の研究、評価、発展などに貢献したアーティストに授与される、Career Art Award 2023を受賞。
