Yumi Kohnoura (Painter)
Yumi graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Faculty of Letters, Department of German Studies in Gakushuin University in Japan in 2012. She worked as a flight attendant which provided her the opportunity to travel widely across the globe, encountering interesting people in cities in different countries, where she developed cultural sensibility.
Years later, she ventured into business, opening a specialty store of goods she collected from areas around the world. The spark for her to become a painter came one day when a Japanese professional painter named Akira Murata happened to drop by her store and asked her to pose as a model for his painting. As a lover of art and an aspiring artist herself, she was extremely attracted by Akira's paintings. She then decided to join in Akira’s painting sessions and was commended for her good taste in using and mixing colors. She was advised to make her own pastel which could be better than those ready-made ones. She decided to create the ‘JESUS PASTEL’, which was intentionally made for Akira and his students after collaborating with an owner of an art store and a cosmetic company specialist. She made her own color chart which could simplify color mixing and assist painters replicate their desired color. While being busy with expanding her palette and color chart, Yumi continued to paint, and now uses watercolor, ‘JESUS PASTEL’ and oil as her medium. She currently operates an atelier shop in Toshima-ku, Tokyo with an array of merchandise and a space for her artwork for purchase.
